Summertime

Looks like it has been 3 weeks since I have blogged. I guess we have a pretty quiet month. School starts 3 weeks from Monday and I feel like I havent had much fun time with my kids. We are planning a trip to Nauvoo next weekend with my friend Kelly and her daughter Cailin. They are flying into St. Louis from Utah. We will get to catch the last night of the Nauvoo pageant. I havent seen it for a few years, so this should be fun! Our kids are finally old enough to maybe understand a little more about church history. Britni is excited to see the Joseph Smith Homestead and Spencer will love to see the Browning gun shop. We have some pioneer heritage in Nauvoo as well. William Pitt is my great-great-great-great grandfather. He formed the Nauvoo Brass Band and travelled with the Saints as they headed west to Utah. He and the band would perform for the camp to bring cheer and happiness after a long days trek. The band would also perform for local communities to earn money to help the pioneers pay for provisions along the way. What a great example of service and sacrifice! William died as he was working on the Salt Lake Temple with a scaffolding fell and hit him. He was loved by the whole community because of his great service.
After our Nauvoo trip, we will head to Branson for some fun at the Dixie Stampede and Silver Dollar City. Hopefully we will get some swimming and shopping in as well. I'm sure Kelly won't want to go home!

Vacationing Again?

So, here I am again, on vacation! But this time, it's just me. Last week I flew down to Augusta to see Russ over the 4th of July holiday. I will be flying back home tomorrow. The kids are probably not even missing me since they get to stay with Aunt Holly and Uncle Chris. So, I guess they are on a mini-vacation too! The day after I flew in to Augusta, Russ and I drove to Beaufort, SC to stay a couple of days. There is a lot to see and do near Beaufort. On Thursday night we ate on the riverwalk. We found a neat steakhouse where I ate the best rib-eye I have ever eaten in my life. Then while driving around, we found a drive-in movie theater. They had 2 screens and would play movies simultaneously, so you could choose which you would like to see. Both screens had double features. We watched the end of Wall-E and then the Incredible Hulk. The next day (the 4th) we went to the public beach on Hunting Island. It was beautiful and packed with people. It was very clean and the water was warm! While we were swimming, we discovered you could catch sand dollars with your toes. There were several kids there that taught us how to do it. It was fun catching them, but it was creepy to hold on to them. We did bring some back to Augusta with us, but I dont think they are going to make the trip home to MO. I think they are starting to stink! We were planning on going to Parris Island that night to watch the fireworks, but I think we were too worn out from the beach. So, we went back to the drive-in and watched the other 2 movies! Saturday morning, we drove back to Augusta. Sunday we went to church with the serviceman's group. I was one of 2 women there! It was a neat experience to see young army guys still trying to do what is right even away from their homes and families. Today, Russ went back to school, so I have been hanging out in the room. Tonight, we will go to the Augusta Riverwalk. Then tomorrow, it's back to Missouri for me! I have had a great time, but I have really missed my kids. I have never been away from Weston or Spencer this long before.
